In 1976 Liberty State Park in Jersey City, NJ was opened for public to celebrate the United States bicentennial. With the spectacular view of the New York City Skyline, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, this place is New Jersey’s best well kept Public Park.
Since then the park has been visited by millions of locals, tourists and enthusiasts alike. The park held historic events such as the world famous 2010 Red Bull Air Race within the New York Bay. Between Liberty Island and Liberty State Park.
The place is also a favorite spot for people who would like to watch the historical 4
th of July Macy’s spectacular fireworks along the
Hudson River.
Liberty State Park offers unlimited recreational uses. Enjoy miles of walkways by walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading. Bring your binoculars for bird watching.
Within the shore enjoy boating, kayaking, fishing or crabbing. A perfect park for family picnic and gatherings. Kite flying is one of the obvious recreation within the large area of the park. The people of France have long admired the American spirit of independence. In 1876 before 100 years celebration of the American independence from Great Britain, Edouard de Laboulaye, a French scholar and authority on America, planned a gift for the American people a monument for America’s symbol of democracy and friendship. Thus the Statue of Liberty was created.
Auguste Bartholdi a French sculptor was commisisioned to built the Liberty Statue. He arrived in America in 1871 to start the project. He selected the island (Liberty Island) as an entry point to America and will be the site of the Statue of Liberty, an eternal symbol of friendship and democracy.
He went back to Paris to began the construction of the statue in 1875. With the help of Gustave Eiffel (the creator of the Eiffel Tower) the materials used to build this monument –copper, wood, and plasters- became a modern technological wonder.
The pedestal which is a platform was built in the island. TheStatue after completion in France was shipped into multiple crates to the United States. And finally was assembled one at a time in the island platform.
The Lady in green robe represents Libertas: the goddess of Roman Freedom.
